The Minnesota African American Heritage Museum and Gallery (MAAHMG) is a relatively new museum in Minneapolis, having opened in 2018. It was created to preserve, record and celebrate the history, art and culture of Blacks in Minnesota. Besides exhibit, it offers special programs and community events. Family-friendly events include the Children’s Reading Circle. Normally, the Children’s Reading Circle is a live and in-person event that is held inside the museum. It is currently virtual and the museum posts a new video reading from a guest author or reader each month. The museum keeps a bookshelf of these books that kids can sit and read when they visit. In the summer months, kids can also participate in free art classes offered by the Children’s Reading Circle. Fox9 shared a tour of the museum in October of 2021. You can watch that video here. Watch it for an overview of the exhibits and a brief commentary, but the video doesn’t really replace a visit.Related Articles:
