Deriving its name from the Dakota words for “water good”, Lake Minnewashta Regional Park is a good water destination for a day at the beach, canoeing or fishing. This 340 acre park, which is managed by Carver County, has family-friendly amenities that include the beach, a fun playground, biking and hiking trails, a dog park and space to picnic. This four-season park offers beautiful spring and fall views and winter activities like skiing, snowshoeing and ice fishing. It also has a playground, beach, and picnic areas available in the summer, and an off-leash dog area that is open year round. Visit this park in the winter to enjoy groomed ski trails and winter equipment rentals on weekends. In December of 2019, Carver County eliminated vehicle and dog park permits at this park. In 2023, Carver County Parks began the planning phase of a project to remove and replace the current 20-year-old playground structure. The park district will gather information and community input prior to creating a plan and hiring a playground firm. Watch for a new playground in 2024 or 2025. Carver County Parks encourages visitors to enjoy the bright fall colors and views while walking the Woodlands Loop Trail. This unpaved trail is slightly over a mile and a half and meanders past Lake Minnewashta and can be shortened by taking the Prairie Trail or the Vista Trail if you find the full route is too long after starting. The dog park offers separated areas for small and large dogs, close to a mile of walking trails, open space for dogs to run and play and a water fountain. 10 Ideas for Family Fun at Lake Minnewashta Regional Park
