A 13-acre park along the Port, Excelsior Commons is an historic park, with family-friendly amenities that include playgrounds, green space and picnic sites, two beaches, sports courts and fields and docks. This park is home to Excelsior’s summer concert series, a variety of festivals and fairs. Kids will just enjoy sitting and watching the boats. The park is near enough to downtown Excelsior that you can take some time to explore the cute shops. The historic Excelsior Streetcar Line and the steamboat Minnehaha are also nearby. Most years, Excelsior hosts Wednesday evening community concerts and sometimes kids concerts during the day. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets. Get notices of upcoming concerts by following The Commons on Facebook. This cozy little beach is free to visit, however, you may have to pay to park. Anne lists this beach in her Top Twin Cities Beaches, Parks and Playgrounds. Among other perks, it has a nearby playground. Check the Hennepin County Website for potential closings due to health issues.
