Bush Lake Beach and East Bush Lake Park are on the east side of Bush Lake in Bloomington. They are located slightly more than a mile away from and across the lake from West Bush Lake Park. The park is part of the greater Hyland-Bush-Anderson Lakes Park Reserve. This popular beach is guarded during open hours (11am to 7pm daily during the season) and its amenities include a volleyball court and concessions stand. Besides enjoying swimming, families can canoe, picnic and explore the trails. 2020 Note: No Lifeguards on duty in 2020.
A daily pass or seasonal parking permit is required for entrance to the beach from June through August. Seasonal vehicle permits are $41, or you can purchase a daily permit for $8. However, West Bush Lake Park does not require a parking permit, so if you don't mind walking a mile (both ways), you can park there. 2020 Note: Vehicle permits have been waived in 2020.
Annual Bush Lake Sandcastles Competition
Each June, Bloomington hosts a sandcastle building contest at this beach. The day also feature games and other fun activities for beach goers. If interested, you may want to RSVP on city's Facebook events page.
Bush Lake Beach Closures
It's a good idea with this beach (as with most natural beaches) to call or check the website before heading out. The city will close the beach if the e-coli levels get dangerously high. You can also sign up for text messages here.
