Family Fun Directory of Things To Do with Kids:
Bush Lake Beach and East Bush Lake Park are on the east side of Bush Lake in Bloomington. They are located slightly more than a mile away from and across the lake from West Bush Lake Park. The park is part of the greater Hyland-Bush-Anderson Lakes Park Reserve. This popular beach is guarded during open ours and its amenities include a volleyball court and concessions stand. Besides enjoying swimming, families can canoe, picnic and explore the trails.
A daily pass or seasonal parking permit is required for entrance to the beach from June 1 through August 31. Seasonal permits are $40, or you can purchase a daily permit for $8. However, West Bush Lake Park does not require a parking permit, so if you don't mind walking a mile (both ways), you can park there.
Annual Bush Lake Sandcastles Competition
Each June, Bloomington hosts a sandcastle building contest at this beach. The day also feature games and other fun activities for beach goers. If interested, you may want to RSVP on city's Facebook events page; 2019's event was cancelled.
Bush Lake Beach Closures
It's a good idea with this beach (as with most natural beaches) to call or check the website before heading out. The city will close the beach if the e-coli levels get dangerously high. You can also sign up for text messages here.
