Girard Lake Park is a 60 acre conservation area in Bloomington located at the intersection of 84th and France Avenue. It offers a one-mile hiking trail around Girard Lake, where families can get out for a hike in a wetland wild area without leaving the Twin Cities. Because it is a conservation area, the park is mostly undeveloped. There are no playgrounds, shelters or restrooms. The City of Bloomington recommends parking in the parking lot on West 84th Street just east of France Avenue.

Girard Lake Park Hiking Trail

According to the City of Bloomington, the trail that winds around Girard Lake is just over one mile long (1.08 miles to be exact) with a 10-ftoot wide wood-chip walking surface. Look for wetland plants and wildlife as you walk – water fowl and frogs are plentiful. Find this and other Bloomington hiking trails on the City’s Hiking & Biking Trail map (PDF).

Fishing Lake Girard?

Neither the DNR nor the City of Bloomington list Lake Girard as a fishing lake. It is mainly marshy wetland and doesn’t have a fishing pier or boat launch. For better options, find the city of Bloomington’s list of city-owned fishing lakes here or consult the DNR’s list of Fishing in the Neighborhood ponds here.
