We’re getting ever-so-closer to the holidays, so it comes as no surprise that several of this weekend’s highlighted events are themed accordingly. However, a closer look reveals that not everything going on is focused on the season…

Friday, December 12

Canadian Pacific Holiday Train
at South Plaza, Union Depot, 214 East 4th Street, Saint Paul, MN 55101

Time: 6-7pm
Cost: Free, or $3 for VIP admission
Details: The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train will be rolling through Union Depot raising food and cash donations for food banks in the U.S. and Canada. The entire train is decked out with brilliant holiday lights and musicians onboard a decorated boxcar will perform starting at 6:30. For the train’s complete schedule click here.

Saturday, December 13

Free Second Saturday: Art & Science
at The Bakken Museum, 3537 Zenith Avenue S., Minneapolis, MN 55416

Time: 11am – 4pm
Cost: Free
Details: A blend of art and science hands-on activities are on the schedule for Bakken’s monthly free Second Saturday program. For a complete schedule click here.

Gingerbread House Making
at Ramsey County Library – Shoreview, 4570 Victoria St N, Shoreview, MN 55126

Time: 10am – 12pm
Ages: Appropriate for ages 4-10
Cost: Free, supplies available while they last
Details: Drop in and decorate your own gingerbread (OK – graham cracker) house! Frosting and candy will be provided for decoration.

Sunday, December 14

Target Family Day: Ready-to-Wear
at Minneapolis Institute of Arts, 2400 3rd Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55404

Time: 11am – 5pm
Ages: Appropriate for all ages
Cost: Free, parking available free on side streets
Details: Explore art on fabrics and fashion some art to wear yourself. Get the complete family-friendly schedule here.

Sundays at Landmark: Santa’s Workshop
at Landmark Center, 75 5th St, Saint Paul, MN 55102

Time: 1pm
Cost: Free, parking available on side streets
Details: Spend the afternoon with Santa and his reindeer while making crafts for friends and family and enjoying festive performances.
