Twin Cities Weekend Free Events List for February 7 – 8, 2015

Both the Walker Art Center and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts are hosting their free family days this weekend! If you’ve yet to bring the kids out to one of these events, I highly recommend it as a remedy for the mid-winter blahs.  For more ideas of how to get out with your family this weekend, check our extensive Family Fun Calendar. Saturday, February 7

Walker First Free Saturday: Past, Present and Future
@ Walker Art Center
1750 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55403

Hours: 10am – 4pm
Ages: Activities are designed for ages 6-12 but younger kids will enjoy many of them as well.
Details: Special art activities have been planned that blends your kids’ imaginations with the history of the Walker’s collections. Gallery admission is free for all ages every first Saturday of the month.

Valentine Box Make & Take
@ Creative Kidstuff locations (find yours here)

Hours: 10am – 1pm
Ages: Appropriate for all ages
Details: Bring your own box to any Creative Kidstuff location and decorate it for Valentine’s Day.

Free Family Concerts: Mozart’s Many Moods
@ Ted Mann Concert Hall
2128 Fourth Street S., Minneapolis, MN 55455

Hours: 1 & 2:30pm
Ages: Geared towards ages 6-12
Details: St. Paul Chamber Orchestra hosts a special free concert aimed at introducing kids to classical music. Mozart himself will entertain and educate the audience about his life and musical styles. Reserve your free tickets by calling 651-291-1144 or clicking here.

Phalen Freeze Fest
@ Phalen Park
1600 Phalen Dr., St. Paul, MN, 55106

Hours: 5 – 8pm
Ages: Appropriate for all ages
Details: Stories around the campfire, ice fishing, flashlight geocaching and more will be held outdoors on Lake Phalen. Dress for the weather and meet at the Phalen Picnic Pavilion.

Sunday, February 8

Family Day: Animal Antics
@ Minneapolis Institute of Arts
2400 3rd Avenue S., Minneapolis, MN  55404

Hours: 11am – 5pm
Ages: Appropriate for all ages
Details: Animal-inspired music, art projects, drama activities and gallery tours make for a full day of family fun.
