Connected by Zanewood Community School (a STEM-based grade school), Zanewood Park and Recreation Center in Brooklyn Park offer family-friendly programming, including a Teen Zone during the day and family and teen activities on evenings and weekends. They also offer Kid Zone summer and school release day programming for grade school kids. Look for special family events throughout the year, like the annual Halloween Trick or Treat Spooktackular and Valentines Family Bingo. The park offers sports courts and fields and there are two playgrounds, which are part of the school but connected to the park. Kids can grab free summer meals on weekdays (not including holidays or July 5th). In 2021, meals are available from 3:30pm to 4:30pm. Updated in 2013, the Teen Zone is a safe and positive place for teens in grades 6 through 12 to hang out, complete with a pool table, big screen TV and plenty of seating to just hang out. Teens fill out a registration form to get their membership when they first come in. Registered teens can join FREE clubs for interests like: Recreation and youth programs are offered throughout the year and teens are encouraged to help decide what the programming will look like. The recreation center has a variety of classroom and multi-purpose rooms available to rent for private events, like birthday parties.
