The City of Shakopee is currently in the planning stages of a new neighborhood park. Windermere Community Park will be the first park in the newly-developed Windermere neighborhood and part of a system of planned parks and open spaces throughout the neighborhood, all connected by walking paths. The city is asking for community input but intends to keep this a more natural park. Other parks in the system will be more developed.

Plans and Options for Future Windermere Community Park Design

This park is meant to highlight the location’s natural features, which include hilly terrain, dense tree coverage and scenic views of both the Minnesota River Valley and sometimes the Minneapolis skyline. The city does not plan to use this park for sports, as there will be other parks to include athletic fields.  Community gardens will also be located in other parks.  Amenities the city is planning or considering for this park include:

  • A mix of trails. Depending on community preference, they may be paved, boardwalk, natural, or a mix of the three.
  • A playground that utilizes the natural topography of the site. Survey respondents can weigh in on whether that play area will be nature-inspired, more contemporary or possibly an ADA compliant slide that is built directly into the natural slope.
  • A picnic area. Details will be determined by popular choice
  • A viewing tower or platform that overlooks the Minnesota River Valley

Shakopee residents, people considering moving to the neighborhood, and other potential park users are encouraged weigh in on the options at this early stage. If interested, ill out a survey here.
