Washburn Fair Oaks Park is the park with the awesome rolling hill across the street from the Minneapolis Institute of Art  and the Hennepin History Museum. While it doesn’t have any playground equipment, it is a large green space where kids can run the sillies out after visiting a museum or seeing a performance at Children’s Theatre Company. We like to picnic in this park before before seeing a show.  It also has some nice climbing trees – not too big and not too small.

6 Ideas for Family Fun at Washburn Fair Oaks Park

  1. Roll Down the big hill on the southeast corner of the park.
  2. In the winter this same hill would make a nice beginner sledding hill because it points away from any roads and is not too steep.
  3. Pack a family picnic to enjoy on a sunny day. There are several restaurants on nearby Franklin Avenue (Eat Street) if you prefer to just grab something.
  4. Climb a tree. This park has several good climbers.

  5. Visit the Minneapolis Institute of Art (FREE), Children’s Theatre and/or the Hennepin History Museum (Free on First Thursdays) when you need a break from the cold.
  6. Bring a book about George Washington to read and then visit his statute in the park.
