Veterans Park in New Brighton is located between the the City Hall off Old Highway 8 and across 3rd Avenue from the parking lot of St. John the Baptist Church & School. This beautiful park has family-friendly amenities that include a picnic pavilion, play equipment, walking paths and green space. Kids like this space for running and playing ball. Find park activities here. The playground equipment is standard but good-sized. It is a bit close to an unguarded pond, and you may want to take that into account when visiting with a toddler who may be a runner. Parents may want to position themselves on the bench between the playground and pond. The playground also has some drainage problems after heavy rains. A stroller-friendly walking path circles the pond and approximately a quarter mile. The “pond” is probably more of a storm-water runoff area not appropriate for swimming or pets. However, it attracts various water fowl, particularly geese, which the city is attempting to control. If you do see a nest with eggs, the City of New Brighton would appreciate a report. The City of New Brighton is in the midst of developing a long-term plan for its parks. There are unsubstantiated rumors that this park is up for a splash pad. We’ll watch and keep you updated.
