Smith Park is a 25 acre park in Bloomington. Family-friendly amenities include a playground, sports courts and fields and a fishing pier. The park offers off-street parking and seasonal restrooms.

8 Ideas for Family Fun in Smith Park

  1. Bring a kickball and play a game on the baseball field
  2. Play some one-on-one on the basketball court. It was resurfaced in spring of 2023.
  3. Take advantage of the fishing pier to try some pond dipping.
  4. Pack a picnic
  5. Run and climb together on the brand new Challenge Course playground or let the kids run while you read a book
  6. Play dodgeball on the large grassy area
  7. Bring your tennis gear and practice together.
  8. Take a walk along the park’s trails

Smith Park Challenge Course

The new Smith Park Playground challenge course opened in April of 2024. It includes a dash course and climbing structures arranged to be run as a race.

Fishing at Smith Pond

Smith Pond is one the most popular city-owned fishing ponds in Bloomington. The pond covers 7 acres.  There is a pier available for fishing and the pond contains black bullhead, black crappie, bluegill, hybrid sunfish, pumpkinseed, brook stickleback. The Minnesota DNR has designated this a Fishing in the Neighborhood pond, which means it is considered a good place to bring children and beginners,
