Shakopee’s Lions Park is home to the Fun for All Playground, an inclusive playground with sensory activities for all ages. It is also the home of SandVenture Aquatic Park. Other family-friendly amenities include a splash pad, space for picnics and grilling out, hiking, a disc golf course, sports courts and fields. In the winter, the park has an ice-skating rink with a warming house. Finished in October of 2016, the Fun For All Playground at Lions Park was built to be inclusive and welcoming to everyone. It surpasses ADA requirements for accessibility and strives to meet the social, sensory, cognitive, and emotional needs of children of all ages and abilities. Thought was put into, not only, playground features, but in details such as a shade structure, wheelchair-friendly paths, and deliberate elevation changes across the playground. All of this is accomplished with an aesthetically pleasing design. Lions Park hosts a free, 18-hole disc golf course. This course is complete with open grassy areas, mid-sized trees, and water holes. In 2021, the city is in the early stages of planning for improvements to the disc golf course. Potential improvements may include upgrading disc golf baskets, adding additional amenities and improving course design. The public is encouraged to weigh in. Lions Park has several options for birthday parties. Bring your own skates; this park does not offer rentals. Shakopee ice rinks close when temperatures drop below -10 degrees, when windchills hit -15 degrees or when the weather is too warm to maintain the ice. Call the Weather Hotline at (952) 233-9502 for up-to-date closure information. Note: In 2017, the city tore down the old warming house and sought, but rejected all bids for building a new warming house. Currently, this park is without a warming house. If a new warming shelter is built, the city expects it to be used for year-round programming. Learn more about SandVenture Aquatic Park here.Fun For All Playground at Shakopee Lions Park
