Located just east of Shakopee Junior High School’s athletic field, Scenic Heights Park is an 11 acre neighborhood park in Shakopee with family-friendly amenities that include a playground and space to picnic. In the winter the park maintains an unpaved hockey rink.  The park is also a connection to Vierling Greenway, a paved trail that runs through Shakopee to Tahpah Park.  This park has onsite restrooms inside the building (however a facility key is needed) and a small, 15-car parking lot. Originally built in 1991, the city has begun the planning stages of redevelopment for this park, which is scheduled to be completed in 2021

GPS Note:  When searching for this park with GPS, use the address, not the name.  Google Maps will take you to an office park of the same name 10 miles away in Eden Prairie.

6 Ideas for Family Fun At Scenic Heights Park

  1. Bring your horseshoes for a game in the park’s horseshoe pit
  2. Play sand volleyball on the park’s court. You’ll need to bring a ball.
  3. Grab your basketball and play a game of one-on-one on the court.
  4. Run out the excess energy on the playground
  5. Pack a Picnic and take advantage of the enclosed Park Shelter w/electricity and grills or bring a blanket to spread in the green space.
  6. Bike through Shakopee on the 3-mile Vierling Greenway trail.

Birthday Parties

The city rents the park’s enclosed shelter for small private events, such as birthday parties. The shelter has electricity and two to three picnic tables. Shakopee facility rental information is found here. Click here for more Birthday Party Ideas.

Updates to Scenic Heights Park

This park, which was built 20 years ago, has been slated for updates. The city approved a multi-generational concept design in February of 2021. Work will begin with playground updates in 2021. Other updates may happen in subsequent years. Improvements will include:

  • Increase trail and sidewalk connections
  • Native vegetation restoration
  • Edible Landscape installation in partnership with the Scott County Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP)
  • Playground equipment upgrades and expansion
  • Pickleball courts
  • A large bankshot course. (What is bankshot? I had to look it up).
