Rice Marsh Lake Park is a large park with a 3.4 mile multipurpose pedestrian trail that loops around Rice Marsh Lake, running through Chanhassen and Eden Prairie. There are two playgrounds with off street parking – one in Chanhassen and one in Eden Prairie. Both are marked on the map below. Other family-friendly amenities include sports courts and fields and a shelter for picnics. Chanhassen has a small off-street parking lot with 8 spaces for vehicles. The trail, which was completed in 2013, is just short of 3½ miles. It is built for use by pedestrians and cyclists. Because of this, it can sometimes feel a little crowded and cyclists and pedestrians need to be aware of each other. Note that some of the loop crosses MNDOT property and users are asked to remain on the trail in those areas. The trail is a favorite local natural area and features rolling terrain, forests, meadows and wetlands. For more biking ideas: The Best Minneapolis Bike Trails for Families. Biba Smart Playground equipment has been added to the Eden Prairie playground. Parents can download a free app to their smartphones or tablets. The app incorporates games and challenges to encourage children to take full advantage of the play equipment. Part of the Riley Creek chain of lakes, Rice Marsh Lake is 81 acres. Fish include Bluegill, Northernpike, and White Sucker. An informal boat launch can be accessed through the walking path. However, there is no fishing pier, so there may be better places to take kids fishing in the area.7 Ideas for Family Fun at Rice Marsh Lake Park
