The City of Shakopee completed the first phase of Quarry Lake Park in 2016. This 111-acre park is mainly nature areas and trails. Other amenities include an overlook, a pedestrian bridge, a gazebo and a fishing pier. The city recommends this park for water-based activities, including watching the Shakopee-Prior Lake Shockwaves Water Ski team, trout fishing, canoeing and kayaking. Shakopee and Prior Lake’s water ski team, Shockwaves, performs on select Thursday evenings on the lake. Visit their website for more information. Gianna has included these performances in our full Guide to Summer Water Sports. Shakopee had originally planned to build a three-mile bike trail and a large community building in 2017. However, that plan was reconsidered. Instead, Shakopee began building a new mountain bike park that will be located at Xcel Energy’s Blue Lake power plant and Quarry Lake to the south of the park. This mountain biking course will cover more ground than the originally planned bike trail and will consist of four loops that go around the park with riding options for beginners through advanced riders. The single-track style course will weave between the existing tree cover and a larger prairie area, taking advantage of natural and man-made topography. Construction began in April of 2021 and is anticipated to last until mid-summer. Visitors are asked to avoid going into the construction site and to refrain from biking on the trails until they are completely constructed and open to the public. Besides the bike trail, Shakopee is has recently approved other updates, scheduled to be completed during 2022 and 2023. The design will be inspired by nature and will include: Learn more about the proposed concept plan on project webpage. The Shakopee-Prior Lake Water Ski Association
