Penn Lake Park is a 40 acre park in Bloomington.  It is mainly a fishing park, but is also a good park for a picnic or exploring nature.  There is a small picnic pavilion, plenty of green space and some unsheltered picnic tables available. Families may enjoy walking through the park to view the native plantings around the lake.  There is no playground at this park, but there is off-street parking available.

  1. Pack a Picnic. Enjoy an afternoon picnic in a beautiful green space.
  2. Go on a Nature Walk. Look up close at the native plantings and see what tiny creatures you can gind.
  3. Fish.
  4. Canoe.  If you have a canoe, there is a launch at this park.
  5. Make it a two-fer.  The Penn Lake Library is only a 2 minute drive or a 10-minute walk from the park.

Fishing Penn Lake

Penn Lake is part of the Nine Mile Creek Watershed District and is one of the more popular fishing ponds in Bloomington. There is a canoe launch, but no pier.  Fish Species in this lake include black bullhead, black crappie, bluegill, green sunfish, hybrid sunfish, white crappie, yellow perch, bigmouth buffalo, common carp, fathead minnow.  The city asks that park visitors respect the privately owned land that boarders the southern portion of the lake.
