Linden Hills Park has family-friendly amenities that include a playground and tot lot, a wading pool and a grill for picnics. There are a variety of sports courts and fields, a drinking fountain and restrooms. This park is in the early stages of an improvement project. After a public comment period during the early fall of 2020, MPRB will begin the process of designing and building the updated park.

7 Ideas for Family Fun at Linden Hills Park

  1. Cool off in the wading pool
  2. Run off the extra energy on the playground.
  3. Bring a Playground Ball.  You can play
    • a game of HORSE on the basketball court
    • dodgeball on the soccer field
    • kickball on the softball or baseball diamonds
    • tiny tot volleyball on the tennis court
  4. Pack your Bocce Ball set. This park has a bocce court.
  5. Dine outside with a picnic. There is a grill available if you want hot food.
  6. Swap your reads at the Little Free Library.
  7. In the winter, go ice skating.

Linden Hills Wading Pool

The wading pool, most recently updated in 2010, is open daily from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm, between Memorial day weekend and Labor Day. If the temperature is still over 85 degrees at 6:00 pm, the pool will remain open an additional hour. Minneapolis wading pools are simple, unheated and unguarded pools. Visit MPRB's Pool Status Page for up-to-date information regarding which pools and water parks are open and closed.

Winter Activities at the Park

In the winter months, Linden Hills maintains outdoor skating rinks for both hockey and skating. There is a warming room and some free loaner skates available. The park hosts an annual Winterfest with skating, marshmallow roasting, a medallion hunt, horse-drawn wagon rides, free hot cider and face painting.

Linden Hills Recreation Center

The recreation center has public rooms that include a community kitchen, a craft room, a meeting room and a multipurpose room.

Birthday Parties at Linden Hills Park

The recreation center has room rental available for birthday parties. There are different permit requirements and special use fees, depending on the use. Contact the facility directly for more information.

Updates to Linden Hills Playground

During Phase 1 of updates, MPRB planned to replace the existing playground with natural-looking equipment that includes elements for climbing, swinging, sliding, and imaginative and cooperative play. However, funds did not allow for a complete playground makeover at that time (February 2020-August 2021). During Phase 2, MPRB will work with the neighborhood association to try to raise funds for the desired update. Look for more updates to the park during the spring of 2022.

The community requested that play equipment for older kids be connected to allow circuit play. Other updates will include:

  • A sand play area;
  • Updated play surfacing;
  • A play dome (if the project remains in budget);
  • Improved drainage;
  • ADA accessibility;
  • New safety fencing

A timeline of updates has not yet been released, but will probably go forward in the summer of 2021 or 2022. We'll update when we learn more. Find more information and up-to-date timelines at MPRB's website.
