Crane Preserve Park in Minnetonka is a natural area off of Wayzata Boulevard just east of Ridgedale Mall that is maintained by the parks department. While there are improvements planned for the near future, it does not currently offer any amenities other than the possibility of crane sightings on Crane Lake. There are no trails to follow; however, there is nearby parking and a Metro Transit Park & Ride Lot, if you just want to bird watch from your vehicle. Realistically, it is too close to shopping areas to be an awesome nature preserve and there are better parks in the Twin Cities for bird watching. Stay tuned. The city of Minnetonka is in the process of planning for updates to this nature preserve. Among its plans to make it more useable for the community is to develop trails through the park, add a picnic shelter, create better viewing areas of Crane Lake, and add interpretive signage, benches, and bike racks for park visitors. They also play to improve its connections to Ridgedale Mall and other nearby trails and make improvements to the landscape like removing invasive species, adding beneficial plants and landscaping for water management.
