Budget Twin Cities April

It doesn’t have to break the bank to entertain the family away from home in the Twin Cities! You’ll find seasonal and ongoing events and activities listed here that all cost $5-$6 or less per person to attend.

4/3-4/7: Spring Make Break | Michaels, Minneapolis • 30 min sessions, 10am-12pm • $2 per project • Select Michaels locations are offering weekday kids crafts over spring break in addition to their regular Saturday morning crafts.

4/8: Saturday Family Fun Days: Zoom In On Spring | Springbrook Nature Center, Fridley • 10-11am • $4/pp or $16/family.

4/8: Barnyard Babies | Edinborough Park, Edina • 10-11:30am • $5/pp • Petting zoo, pony rides, crafts, music and a scavenger hunt. Adventure Peak admission not included.

4/8: Family Dance | Tapestry Folkdance Center, Minneapolis • 6:30-8pm • $5/pp or $10/family • The focus is on teaching simple dances that everyone in the family can enjoy. Breaks will feature snacks and kid-friendly activities.

4/15: FFTC’s Rockin’ Party | Rockin’ Jump Trampoline Park, Eagan • 10am-1pm • $6/pp includes one hour of play, socks to jump in and party treats – come help celebrate FFTC’s 4th birthday!

4/21: Family Fun & Fitness Fridays | Great River Water Park, St Paul • find Open Swim hours here • $2/pp during Open Swim hours.

4/21-22: Kids at the Castle: April Showers Bring May Flowers | American Swedish Institute, Minneapolis • 11am-noon (feel free to stay after and explore the castle) • $8/family • Before the museum opens, join ASI for visual play, storytelling, music, and movement inspired by ASI’s exhibits that will encourage creative young minds. Suggested for ages 2-5.

Andover Community Center: Tot Time Open Gym & Activities | Most Mon & Tues through April 2017 • 9:30-11:30am • 6 & under w/ caregiver • $3-$4/child • Drop in for unstructured play time and special activities such as a bounce house, book swap and craft days. Be sure to check the calendar for the latest schedule.

Braemar Field: Tot Time | Edina • Mon & Wed, 9-11am • $3/child • Room to run, age appropriate toys and some organized games. Family Night is held Saturdays through 4/2/14, 6:30-8:30pm • $5/pp

Brookview Community Center: Preschool Playtime | Golden Valley • Ongoing Fridays through 4/21/17, 10-11:30am • $2 per child, under 1 year free • A variety of play areas will be set up for kids ages 1-5 to run, jump, crawl and roll indoors.

Eagan Community Center: Preschool Open Play | EaganOngoing Mon-Fri, 9-11:30am • $4 per child, under 18 mons free • A variety of fun toys and sport equipment are available to play in the gym as well as play time in the Blast Indoor playground.  For kids ages 1-5.

Eden Prairie Community Center: Tot Time Open Gym | Eden Prairie • Ongoing Mon-Fri, 9:30-11:30am (9:15-11:30 Thurs) • $4/pp ages 1-4, $5/pp ages 5+, under 1 and caregivers free • Participate in free play with balls, hoops, scooters, jump ropes, tumbling mats, parachutes, music and more. For $6/pp, admission to the Prairie Play Zone indoor playground is included. Best for ages 1-4.

Gleason’s Gymnastic School: Preschool Open Gym | Eagan • Wed 9:30-11:30am & Fri 9:30-11:30 and 12-2pm • ages 0-6  $8/child or $10/family AND Maple Grove • Wed/Fri • 9:30-11:30am • Have the run of the equipment! Kids can jump on the trampolines, launch themselves into the foam pit, walk the balance beam, follow obstacle courses, swing from the trapeze and more.

Hopkins Pavilion: Pavilion Turf Tots | Hopkins • Ongoing Mon-Fri, 9am-2pm starting 3/2/17 • $4/child, caregivers free • Drop in for play with equipment including balls, crawl tunnels, bounce houses, blocks, and more. Suited for kids ages 1-5.

Maple Grove Community Center: Parent/Tot Time | Mon & Wed, 10-11:30am • $2.50/resident youth, $3/non-res youth, caregivers free, best for ages 5 & under.

Michaels Kids Club Crafts | TC Michaels locations • Ongoing April Saturdays, 10am-noon • $2 per project, ages 3+. Check the link for details.

Saturday Mornings on the Farm | Gale Woods Farm, Minnetrista • Ongoing April Saturdays, 9:30am-noon • $5/pp • Calling all farmhands! Help out with chores, spend time with the animals and participate in other spring farm activities. Closed-toe shoes required. Strollers not allowed in the barn or around animals.

FANtastic Saturdays | The Blast Indoor Playground, Eagan Community Center • 5-8pm • $4/pp ages 18 mon-12 years, all others free. Better bang for your buck every Saturday evening: $4 will get you into the Blast Indoor Playground, the gym for games, and provide a movie and crafts (parents must stay to supervise their kids).

Raptor Center Tours | Gabbert Raptor Center (St Paul campus of the U of M) • 30-minute tours every half hour, 10:30am-3:30pm, ongoing Tues-Fri • $3/ages 3-17, $5/adultsBring kids of any age for a fun and educational visit to the University of Minnesota’s Raptor Center. Meet some resident raptors, get hands-on with natural materials, and visit the kids’ play corner.

Bowl for a Buck | University of MN’s Coffman Union (Thurs, 5pm-close) & St Paul Student Center (all day Wed) • $1 per game plus $2 shoe rental.

Friday Family Funday | Grove Cove Aquatic Center, Maple Grove • Ongoing Fridays in April, 9am-8pm • $6/pp or $22/family for all members.
