TWIN CITIES NORTH METRO APPLE ORCHARDS

The pickings are decidedly slimmer in the North Metro: a handful of orchards offer apples for sale, but you might invite disappointment if the kids have their hearts set on harvesting their own. I’ll also list the orchards below that do not offer U-pick (because we feel some are worth a stop for some fresh produce or a chance to get outside).

Deer Lake Orchard

1903 10th St SW, Buffalo MN 55313
In addition to the fresh picks there is live music on fall weekends, a corn maze to meander through, wagon rides, a little train, animals to meet…all the classic orchard activities you’d hope to find.

Orchard Notes:

Hours: Open starting September 9, 2023. Tues-Sun, 10am-6pm.
Picking: Apples both u-pick and pre-picked.
Prices: Activities $4 each or $20/wristband.

Sunrise River Farm

7602 Wyoming Trail, Wyoming, MN 55092
We were completely charmed by the atmosphere at Sunrise River Farm on the outskirts of Wyoming, Minnesota. We loved that even on a weekend, the orchard never felt crowded, that we could wander through the apple trees and pick without bumping into fellow harvesters, and the kids adored visiting with all the farm critters. Prepare to spend lots of time wandering the barn stalls and meeting the resident donkeys, chickens, pigs and more.

And though they’ve all got bikes at home, there’s nothing like tooling around on someone else’s, especially if there’s room for some cargo! Kids visiting the farm can play with the trikes and wagons, or burn off some energy on the playground. There’s no admission charge to enter the farm or for any of the activities beyond a small fee for the hayrides and the barrel train.

We were very pleased with the U-pick crop and beyond that, the Farm Market is filled with treats and other products to take home. Make sure to take advantage of all the samples offered before choosing one!

Orchard Notes:

Hours: Open Thurs-Sunday; 10am-6pm starting Labor Day weekend 2023 thru the end of October.
Picking: Consult this ripening chart to see what’s picking or call 651-462-8220 to check.
Prices: Apples are sold by half and quart-peck bags. Purchase your bag in the Farm Market before going out into the orchard to pick.

Woods’ Edge Apples Orchard

1901 50th St NE, Buffalo, MN 55313
A small, family-run farm and orchard where you can pick your own apples this fall. Plus, u-pick raspberries and sweet resident goats to greet you. Slow down your pace out here in the Twin Cities northwest suburbs.
