What month is this, anyway?

We’re not sure what to call the season these days – late winter? Early spring? Something that feels like the end of October but somehow the color palette is off. We regret not being able to showcase all of our snow-and-ice filled guides this month, but it’s not quite time to get excited about maple syrup and egg hunts. Until then, we’re still here rounding up the best family fun this side of March. For more ideas, hop over to our FEBRUARY FAMILY GUIDE or our FAMILY FUN CALENDAR.

Phalen Freeze Fest

Phalen Lakeside Activities Center, 1530 Phalen Drive, Saint Paul, MN

Phalen Regional Park hosts a fair amount of activity during the more temperate months; Freeze Fest has been its signature winter event the past several years, though its been on hiatus the last few. It won’t be the Freeze Fest you recall from those days (thanks to our weird weather) but the festival will go on with hot beverages, seed planting, bird watching, an orienteering activity and outdoor games. February 24, 2024, 1-4pm, FREE.

Oakdale Indoor Market & Discovery Center

4444 Hadley Avenue N, OakdaleMN 55128
After browsing the indoor vendors to pick up tasty local treats, definitely stop in at the Discovery Center so kids can play around with natural objects and view an aquarium and a beehive. February 24, 2024, 9am-1pm. FREE admission.

Need indoor activity ideas? Try a new indoor play space!

For Minnesota parents it’s essential to know where to escape the elements and still keep the kids active and happy. During the months of November through March we try to highlight the best indoor playgrounds in the Minneapolis-St Paul area in the hopes of helping you add a new space to your list: This weekend we’re promoting INNER ACTIVE PLAYGROUND in Mounds View. There is open space to do some serious large-motor play here, families, plus a play structure, basketball court and soccer goals and a jumping pillow. All ages are encouraged to play here, adults to the smallest users – who have a special spot designed just for them. $12/child ages 1-17 for a day-long pass, adults are free. 2240 Woodale Drive, Mounds View, MN 55112.
