Outside on the East Plaza, the market is set up with wooden kiosk decorated with lights, garlands and red bows.
The European Christmas Market was created by the European Christmas Market organization –it is a 501(c)(3). Last year the event was held in downtown St. Paul on West 7th Place. This year we approached the organization and invited them to be a part of our #HubfortheHolidays events here at Union Depot. We felt the market would be a great fit and complement the other holiday events we have taking place at the building.
The market is based on the traditional, charming, and festive open air Christkindlmarkts that spring up in Germany, Austria and other countries during the Advent season. Folks can shop for unique, handmade holiday gifts and decorations from local vendors, drink Glühwein (spiced mulled wine), and taste European-inspired food and delicacies.

The Holiday Bake Sale will be set up indoors in the Waiting Room with 39 different vendors, as well as a stage full of entertainment and baking demonstrations.
When Union Depot reopened its doors in December of 2012, we had a fantastic grand opening event. We really wanted to create an event that we could host each year around the same time to commemorate our anniversary from year to year. The result of a lot of brainstorming was the Holiday Bake Sale. Nothing else like it exists in the Twin Cities, and with different baked goods really making a name for themselves in the foodie world (i.e. cupcakes, cronuts, etc.) we thought it would be great if folks could come to one place and shop all of the best bakeries and delicacies in the Twin cities.
This year we once again have The Buttered Tin at the bake sale, they are famous for their cupcakes and cookies and are continually ranked one of the best bakeries in local publications.
Also, this year we are have a couple of gluten free bakeries, Bittersweet Gluten Free Bakery (a totally GF bakery), and Nikkollette’s Macarons. Also, don’t miss Cravin’ Pies. You will melt over the sweet deliciousness of these miniature individual handmade pies.
