Shrek: An Ogre-Sized Theatre Experience

Shrek and FionaAcclaimed director Peter Rothstein (Cabaret, Theatre Latté Da) will bring a magnetic Shrek the Musical to life on CTC’s UnitedHealth Group Stage beginning April 22. With a seasoned cast including Reed Sigmund, Autumn Ness and Ansa Akyea, incredible scenic and costume designs, choreography by Michael Matthew Ferrell and Tony-nominated music, Shrek is an ogre-sized musical with an equally big soul, sure to delight everyone from the very young to the young at heart.  (Taken from Children Theatre Company’s press release)

For almost 2 months, you will have the chance to catch this show!

To say that I have been waiting all season for this production at Children’s Theatre Company would be a little misleading, but I have definitely been waiting all of 2014 especially since I learned that Shrek is going to be played by Reed Sigmund (one of my most favorite local actors) and Princess Fiona is going to be played by his in-real-life wife, Autumn Ness (one of my most favorite local actresses–maybe because she’s a mom like me and has an awesome job! Oh, and she is really good at what she does.)   CTC Artistic Director Peter C. Brosius  claims that the ill-mannered, malodorous Shrek is “the role Reed Sigmund was born to play.”  But you can judge that for yourself here.

If this clip doesn’t get you excited for Shrek, I’m not sure what will.  I am already planning on contacting Children’s Theatre Company for $10 tickets for my son’s birthday.  Did you know that for every show, CTC reserves a minimum of ten $10 tickets for each performance.  You just have to contact the box office the Sunday before the performance you are interested in  attending to reserve those tickets.  (I think this is one of my favorite little secrets of CTC).  I can bring my whole family to a Tony-award winning theatre for less than the price of one regularly priced ticket!
