Today the Design Zone exhibit will open – bringing hands-on math exploration to the museum just in time for fall break!

In Design Zone, visitors will go behind the scenes and see how video game developers, music producers, roller coaster designers, and other creative problem solvers use math to do the amazing things they do. They’ll solve real-world challenges by using their hands – and their bodies – to explore slope, scale and ratios. They’ll discover that math isn’t just a subject in school – it’s a fundamental, creative tool that they can use to design and invent.

Now playing in the Omnitheater is Flight of the Butterflies, a brand new giant screen film that tells the moving, true story of a determined zoologist and the legion of citizen scientists who joined him on a 40-year quest to unravel the mystery of the monarch migration and find their mysterious winter haven. To complete the experience, visitors will see hundreds of live butterflies in the Live Butterfly House.

In addition to this fall’s new features, visitors will find old favorites, as well: a gallery devoted to dinosaurs and fossils, hands-on engineering activities, weather explorations, the popular Cell Lab, and more.
