Museum Day 2020- Get FREE Museum Tickets

The 2020 Smithsonian Museum Day has not been announced yet, but it is generally the third weekend of September. On this day, visitors can get two free tickets to participating museums. Tickets become available in mid-August through the Smithsonian website. Minnesota always has several participating museum (not always the same museums).

Is This Really A Good Deal?

In a lot of cases, no. Many of these museums are free or cheap year round and may require a road trip. In those cases, you may be happier visiting on a more convenient day. However, for other participants, Smithsonian’s Museum Day may be the only chance to see that museum for free. (Note that you only get two free tickets, you may still end up paying for some family members). We lay them all out for you here, listing the museum and its address, an approximate drive-time from the Twin Cities, and the prices you would pay any other day.

Finally, If you don’t see the museum you want to visit on this list, check the Museum Day page linked above, because sometimes there are last-minute additions and sometimes museums even get removed from the list..

2020 Minnesota Museum Day Participants:

We will update this list in early August 2020 and a second time in September to catch the stragglers.  Stay Tuned.
