Minneapolis Parks – FREE Winter Fun 2020/2021

While many park buildings continue to be closed to the public, the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board (“MPRB”) is still offering some FREE activities for families during the winter of  2021.

Minneapolis Parks Adventure Hubs

MPRB has designated 16 Parks to be “Adventure Hubs” this winter. Drop into any of these parks for FREE winter fun. While supplies last, borrow supplies and materials for  self-guided activities, such as: : 

  • Snowshoeing
  • Trekking with poles
  • Fort building
  • Snow painting
  • Bird watching and/or animal tracking

These items are free to borrow and no registration is required. Just pick a park to visit and see what’s available and be ready for fun! The items will rotate periodically, so you can keep coming back to try new activities.

Two FREE online programs are available for kids between ages 6-15 – an introduction for beginners or a development program for more experienced wrestlers. Both programs are taught by certified coaches. 


Virtual: Introduction to Wrestling (#117128)

For kids between the ages of 6 and 15 who are interested in learning more about wrestling. Kids will learn about stance, motion and rides. .

  • Time: Mondays, 7-8 pm
  • Dates: January 4-February 15
  • Pre-Requisites: All participants should have a partner and carpeted area to practice
  • Cost: FREE,  but must register

Virtual: Wrestling Skill Development (#117132)

For tweens/teen athletes between the ages of 9 and 14 who are ready to develop and practice their techniques. All participants should have a partner and carpeted area to practice.

  • Time: Thursdays, 7-8 pm
  • Dates: January 7-February 18
  • Pre-Requisites: All participants should have a partner and carpeted area to practice
  • Cost: FREE,  but must register
