On February 18, 2018, GRAMMY nominated family music artist, Justin Roberts will be at the Cedar Cultural Center with his band, The Not Ready for Naptime Players. The concert will be supporting his album, Lemonade*, which was nominated for a GRAMMY on November 28th. Tickets are $15.00 (under 2 free), however, last I checked, our ticket affiliate*, Goldstar had discounted tickets for $12/each.
Lemonade is Roberts’ 13th album for families. The Chicago artist’s peppy folk style is reminiscent of Van Morrison with family-friendly lyrics. The songs are well-written and well-produced. It is family music in comparison to straight-children’s music, because you could play in the car without going crazy. You can check out one of his concerts below. I always recommend learning the music before going to a show.
However, it doesn’t make the cut for my family’s music library because it doesn’t have the instant sing-along quality of the best family music. My children walked in and out of the room without taking notice of the music. We have several local bands that fill this niche and play local free shows regularly. If you enjoy this style of music, I would also recommend checking out Jack & Kitty, The Roe Family Singers, or The Bazillions.
