Family Fun: Grape Stomp Festival at St. Croix Vineyards

Until recently, I was not aware that Saint Croix Vineyards’ annual Grape Stomp Festival is free and open to the whole family. Whether or not we actually stomp the grapes, the idea of a picnic and vineyard tour along with live music sounds like a really pleasant weekend afternoon spent with the family.

Grape Stomp Festival at St. Croix Vineyards

Competitions for both kids and adults will be held three times a day and prizes will be awarded to those with the best grape-stomping style (as determined by audience applause). To double your fun, next door to St Croix Vineyards is Aamodt’s Apple Farm. Fall activities at the orchard begin early September. Ride the Honeycrisp Express, visit the goats, and take a wagon ride to pick your own fresh apples off the tree. Please check the website for the picking variety and hours before heading out.

For more about spending a day at the orchard, jump over to our Twin Cities Guide to Apple Orchards.

When I think of Grape Stomps, I think of I Love Lucy

Not only do I think this could be fun to participate in this festival as a family, it could be an opportunity to introduce my kids to Lucy. Find the episode on YouTube, (or not if you think it might encourage a sibling grape fight).

This event is included on our Fall Festival calendar. Find More Fall Festivals Here.

    Dear Grape Stomp Festival org;:

I’m David Swanson, a musician from White Bear Lake, MN. I have a very unusual “novelty” talent that I feel would make a great fit at your fair this summer! I present it here for your consideration:

I am a double trumpet player -meaning that I can play two trumpets at once and in duet harmony! I entertainment with them along with CD background music tracks for a full one-man band sound in the twin cities area! I started training to play two trumpets at once about eight years ago and have been at it ever since.

This unique musical feat is very much an attention-getter that people everywhere enjoy! Wherever I perform, people gather around to take pictures and videos of my shows. Most people have never heard of dual trumpet playing before so they are usually pretty amazed at all of my demonstrations. I play a variety of music from the oldies to the more modern and people seem to like all I play!

By having my double trumpet shows at your fair, you will have perhaps the most unique act around as I’m the only active double trumpet player in state. I perform for many community events and also several shows at the Minnesota State Fair. This summer KARE11-TV plans to feature my double trumpet playing story on their popular Land of 10,000 Stories show.

My double trumpet playing shows can be used in a variety of ways at your fair:

    1) As an entryway entertainment as fair goers are walking by in 15-20 minutes long segments throughout the day.
    2) As a half hour warm-up entertainment act before bands are scheduled to perform.
    3) As a featured stage entertainment show (30-50 minutes a show).

Please refer to my website for pictures and video samples of my musical talents.

Thank you so much for your consideration and look forward to hearing from you. Please contact me if you have any questions.

    Sincerely,

    David A. Swanson

(My double trumpet’s shows are of course available all year around for other community events that your city sponsors. In my website you’ll see that I also play cocktail hour and dinner sets as a lounge pianist should you need that kind of music, or I can even combine both double trumpet playing and lounge piano!)

    • Hi David. We are not in any way associated with the Grape Stomp Festival or St. Croix Vineyards. We are a site that suggests fun things to do as a family.
