Until recently, I was not aware that Saint Croix Vineyards’ annual Grape Stomp Festival is free and open to the whole family. Whether or not we actually stomp the grapes, the idea of a picnic and vineyard tour along with live music sounds like a really pleasant weekend afternoon spent with the family.
Competitions for both kids and adults will be held three times a day and prizes will be awarded to those with the best grape-stomping style (as determined by audience applause). To double your fun, next door to St Croix Vineyards is Aamodt’s Apple Farm. Fall activities at the orchard begin early September. Ride the Honeycrisp Express, visit the goats, and take a wagon ride to pick your own fresh apples off the tree. Please check the website for the picking variety and hours before heading out.
For more about spending a day at the orchard, jump over to our Twin Cities Guide to Apple Orchards.

When I think of Grape Stomps, I think of I Love Lucy
Not only do I think this could be fun to participate in this festival as a family, it could be an opportunity to introduce my kids to Lucy. Find the episode on YouTube, (or not if you think it might encourage a sibling grape fight).
This event is included on our Fall Festival calendar. Find More Fall Festivals Here.
