Free Family Weekend Events List for April 11-12, 2015

I’m going to keep it short and sweet this week in case families are still recovering from a jam-packed holiday weekend.
Good news! It’s gonna feel like spring this upcoming weekend – and we’ve got just a few ideas to get you started in case you need a few to jump-start your family time. As always, check our Family Fun Calendar for a complete listing of how to get out and about this weekend!


MayDay Workshop
@ In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre
1500 E Lake St, Minneapolis, MN 55407

Time: 9 – 11am & 1 – 3pm
All ages welcome, children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
Come help create floats for the annual MayDay celebration in Powderhorn Park! Artists will guide volunteers in creating a piece of their own or a contribution to a parade float.

Free Second Saturday
@ Bakken Museum
3537 Zenith Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55416

Time: 10am – 5pm
All ages welcome, exhibits appeal mainly to kids preschool-aged and up.
Take advantage of free admission every second Saturday of the month at The Bakken Museum, a space dedicated to exhibits about electricity.


Family Day – Rock the Cradle
@ Minneapolis Institute of Arts
2400 Third Ave. South, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55404

Hours: 11am – 5pm
Ages: Appropriate for all ages
Details: Sponsored by The Current, the MIA, and Children’s Theatre Company, this annual event invites kids and their families to come out for live music, DJ storytime, a kids dance party, and lots of other activities hosted by some of our favorite local businesses and non-profits.
