Family Fun: Night to Unite & National Night Out, August 1, 2023

Night to Unite, National Night Out, America’s night out or good excuse for a block party – call it what you will. On the first Tuesday of August — August 1, 2023 — communities across the Twin Cities Metro participate in this nation-wide program to strengthen neighborhood spirit, police-community partnerships for safer cities.

National Night Out Events & Night to Unite Celebrations

Apple Valley Night to Unite

Apple Valley encourages neighborhood parties to collect school supplies for students in need and participate in the annual chalk art contest.

Arden Hills Night to Unite

Ramsey County sheriff’s Department has resources for organizing and planning a party. 5pm-9pm.

Blaine Night to Unite

Build neighborhood camaraderie, meet your neighbors and to meet police, fire, and other city council member, who will visit as many parties as possible during the event. Find your nearest block party on a map here or register your block party in June and July. Block hosts of this annual community-building campaign can find coloring pages to share here.

Brooklyn Park National Night Out

Neighborhoods can host their own parties to build stronger neighborhood spirit, police-community partnerships and lower crime in your area. Successful community parties could include a picnic, ice cream social, or just a meet up.

Burnsville Night to Unite

Get to know neighbors, heighten crime awareness and strengthen community. Hosts can find materials here. Once registered, hosts can receive updates, goodies and request a visit from our Police, Fire, City staff members or elected officials.

Champlin Night to Unite

Connect with your Champlin neighbors, make new friends and build community. Register your event with the city to request a visit from city officials, such as police, fire, city council or mayor, and get a goodie bag.

Chanhassen Night to Unite

Plan a festive, fun night out with the neighborhood that emphasizes public safety. Register a party in June or July to request a visit from Chanhassen Fire Department, Carver County Sheriff’s Office, or the Carver County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse.

Chaska Night to Unite

Chaska’s events are designed to promote crime and drug prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, while sending a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized. Organizers of block parties are encouraged to host cookoutsneighborhood walks and youth events. Representatives from Chaska Police and Fire, McGruff Crime Dog, and Target join in as many neighborhood parties as they can.

Coon Rapids Night to Unite

Registered events receive visits from the police and/or fire department, a “swag bag” with a lot of fun goodies and are added to a list for police and fire department visits!

Corcoran Night to Unite Celebration

Registered parties receive starter packs to help make the night enjoyable for the whole neighborhood. Kids are encouraged to participate in the coloring contest.

Cottage Grove Night to Unite

Find tips, activity ideas and planning worksheets to help build a true sense of community among neighbors at the link. Barbecues, ice cream socials, kids’ games, music, pizza parties, and potlucks are encouraged.

Eagan National Night Out

Registration opens the first week of June. The City has an interactive map to find your closest neighborhood party.

Boy Meeting St. Paul Police Officers at Minnesota State Fair

Eden Prairie Night to Unite

Registration begins in June. Representatives from the city will try to visit many of the local celebrations. Planning materials are available to neighborhood hosts.

Edina Night to Unite

Residents who want to promote caring places to live can register their party and request a visit from first-responders like police officers, K-9, Firefighters with a fire truck, Bike Patrol or Paramedics.

Elk River Night to Unite

In 2022, Elk River Police set up three different park sites to meet with community members. Neighborhoods could still obtain street closure approval and host their own party. 

Fridley Night to Unite

You will need neighbor signatures/permission to close the street. Applications for street closure are due by July 17, 2023. Find information for hosting a low-waste block party, printable door hanger invitations and to register.

Golden Valley National Night Out

City offers planning kits, invitations and registration online. Hosts can print a planning kit, invitations and information on how to encourage neighbors to keep porch lights on from dusk to dawn to deter crime.

Hopkins National Night Out

Many Hopkins neighborhoods will be hosting block parties, cookouts, ice cream socials, potlucks and games from 5-9pm.

Inver Grove Heights Night to Unite

IGH encourages neighborhood festivals and gatherings but will not provide barricades to close off traffic and reminds hosts that it is against the law to place items in the roadway.

Lake Elmo Night Out

The family-friendly event is held at Lion’s Park in downtown Lake Elmo.

Lakeville National Night Out

Traditionally 6pm-8:30pm. Police and Firefighters will attempt to visit each registered party.

Lino Lakes Night to Unite

Enter the Annual Night to Unite Kids Coloring Contest for a chance to have lunch with the Public Safety Director and Fire Chief.

Little Canada Night to Unite

Register your party through Ramsey County to gather your neighbors and public safety personnel.

Maple Grove National Night Out

Register with Crime Prevention.

Maple Plain Night to Unite

Register in July to host a neighborhood party between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

Mendota Heights Night to Unite

Minneapolis National Night Out

Did you know that Minneapolis leads the nation for National Night Out participation? Register your party online and join in.

 

Minnetonka Night to Unite

Register your party to request a visit form police, fire or a big public works truck. Find event ideas and tips at the link.

New Hope Night to Unite

Plymouth Night to Unite

Neighborhoods are encouraged to host potluck dinners, ice-cream socials or even just order carryout from a local restaurant.

Prior Lake Night to Unite

Register by July 24th to request a visit from City Staff. Party organizers can request visits from a public works truck, fire truck or a police car and are encouraged to collection donations for Reaching Our Community’s Kids (ROCK).

Ramsey Night to Unite

Final registration date is July 11th to receive coordinator t-shirt and free crime prevention materials from Ramsey Police Department.

Richfield Night to Unite

Registered hosts can get on a list for police and fire personnel to visit the party and find a Planning Kit here.

Robbinsdale National Night Out

Register now for this opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances, enhance relationships and bring back a true sense of community. Local law enforcement officers attend block parties to talk with attendees about any issues or concerns they may have.

Rosemount Night to Unite

Celebrate strong neighborhoods and community partnerships and get to know your neighbors with a block party. Register your party by July 25th to receive a visit from Public Safety officials.

Roseville Night to Unite

Hosts can find information and tips, activity ideas and more here. Police and fire personnel try to visit as many block parties as they can.

Savage Night to Unite

Register your party for a chance at winning a special group prize donated by the Savage Crime Prevention Association.

Shakopee Night to Unite

This year’s theme is music.  Shakopee suggests dressing up as favorite musicians, playing karaoke or hosting a neighborhood jam. Register your party by July 22nd.

Shorewood Night to Unite

A block party is an excellent opportunity to get to know your neighbors and local police officers and keep crime from affecting your neighborhood.

St. Anthony Village Night to Unite

The St. Anthony Cub Food Store will provide a 5-quart pail of Kemps vanilla ice cream to each resident who hosts an event. Register in July.

St. Paul National Night Out

Find a participation guide, registration and more on Saint Paul’s website. The city has ideas for low key, moderately organized and well-organized parties.

Wayzata Night to Unite

McGruff the Crime Dog and local officials will visit parties between 5:15pm-8:30pm, providing small gifts for kids and crime prevention messages for everyone.

West St. Paul Night to Unite

Apply online to register your party by July 18th and get swag bags for your party.

Woodbury Night to Unite

Hosts can invite public safety staff (and vehicles) to visit their parties.

Jordan Night to Unite

In the past, Jordan Police and Fire Departments, Ridgeview Ambulance Services, Elected Officials, and McGruff the Crime Fighting Dog visited registered block parties. Stay tuned.
