The historic Eidem Homestead, a turn-of-the-century farm out in Brooklyn Center, was one of the places that had languished on my master summer to-do list for several years. We finally made it out last month to check out “Daily Life on the Farm”, this season’s program at the historic site. It’s a fun chance for kids to get hands-on in the barn, the farmhouse, and in the field.
Some of the kids’ favorites: feeding the farm animals, polishing the silver inside the house, picking peas in the garden, and pumping water for the potato plants (at left). Excuse me, but how come there’s not nearly as much enthusiasm for tackling chores at home?
If you think your kids might also be interested in playing at farm chores, Daily Life on the Farm runs select dates during the summer (check the schedule here (pg 18) before heading out) and costs $5/pp, kids 3 & under admitted free. Want the whole family to visit the farm for free? All ages are admitted without charge on select dates when Eidem Homestead hosts Stories From the Porch followed by free play in the barnyard.
