Tis the season for holiday bells, baby bottles, and happy smiles, as VocalEssence prepares for a fan favorite—the annual Star of Wonder family concert. This year, members of the VocalEssence Ensemble Singers will perform the 45-minute concert twice on Saturday, December 10.
Philip Brunelle, founder and artistic director of VocalEssence, says, “Choral music is a Christmas tradition, and it’s truly heartwarming to see the amazement on so many small faces as they watch a choir sing as one. We look forward to it all year.”
The best part of the show is that Star of Wonder’s spirit depends on plenty of help from the audience! The more excited the kids are, the better the show becomes.
The Star of Wonder concert will have a brand new feature this year called
the Lullaby Project.
Carnegie Hall and VocalEssence have been working together on this new community outreach initiative.
Teen moms at Longfellow Alternative High School have been working with visiting composers and VocalEssence conductors and singers to express their hopes and dreams in musical form. According to research, the experience of writing a lullaby promotes bonding with a baby—a key predictor in the future success of children. The work of the Lullaby Project’s young mothers culminates in the recording and performance of their compositions by VocalEssence singers.
