The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum celebrates autumn in grand style. Keep in mind that the Arborteum is a wonderful place for families to visit year-round. APPLE ORCHARD PICKS
Deardorff Orchards | Waconia
Treat your family to a trip to Deardorff Orchards. It’s a classic place to pick apples — a picturesque barn, farm animals, straw bales to climb and hayrides into the orchard — with a few nice twists. There’s live music performing most weekends while you stroll the grounds. Adults can sip on a glass from the onsite Parley Lake Winery. And the whole family can enjoy food truck fare for lunch (select weekends only, check website first, please). 10am-6pm, free admission.
Sunrise River Farm | Wyoming
We love the cozy, family feel of this orchard in the far northern suburbs. Wander through the barnyard and give the donkeys a brush. Smaller members of the crew will enjoy pedaling the trikes and riding the barrel train while older ones will want to try out the tire swing. Apple picking is unhurried and not crowded, at least on our visits. Open 10am-6pm, free admission.
PUMPKIN PATCH PICK
Time to start plotting for those jack-o-lanterns! Where to head? We’ve got more than a few ideas.
Sat, Oct 5: Family Fun Saturday | Barten Pumpkins, New Prague
Take the kids out for free pony rides, hay rides, and caricature drawings.10am-2pm, FREE admission. For more places to pick that perfect pumpkin try our Twin Cities Pumpkin Patch Guide.
