Located in the neighborhood of the same name, Whittier Park offers families a playground with a tot lot and a Little Free Library, a wading pool and a picnic area with drinking fountain and restroom facilities. It also has a softball field and half-court basketball courts. The recreation center has a gym, craft room, and spaces available to the public. The recreation center’s amenities include a community kitchen, computer lab, craft room and gym. There is also a meeting room and multipurpose room for use by the public. It is not air-conditioned. MPRB will be building a new Spark’d Studio at Whittier Rec in 2023. It is expected to open by spring of 2023. The studio will allow young people to learn photography, graphic design, videopgraph, music production and website development with both structured programming and drop-in open studio times. Whittier Park participates in the summer meals program. All children under 18 qualify for this program. The pool opens after school releases for the summer break and closes before school resumes. Minneapolis wading pools are unguarded.
