Located in the neighborhood of the same name, Whittier Park offers families a playground with a tot lot and a Little Free Library, a wading pool and a picnic area with drinking fountain and restroom facilities. It also has a softball field and half-court basketball courts. The recreation center has a gym, craft room, and spaces available to the public.

Whittier Wading Pool

Whittier Park is adjacent to Whittier International School and daycare. The pool opens after school releases for the summer break and closes before school resumes. Minneapolis wading pools are unguarded.

Whittier Recreation Center

The recreation center’s amenities include a community kitchen, computer lab, craft room and gym. There is also a meeting room and multipurpose room for use by the public. It is not air-conditioned.

Spark’d Studio

MPRB will be building a new Spark’d Studio at Whittier Rec in 2023. It is expected to open by spring of 2023. The studio will allow young people to learn photography, graphic design, videopgraph, music production and website development with both structured programming and drop-in open studio times.


Birthday Parties at Whittier Park

Families can rent the recreation center for birthday parties and other private events. Permit requirements and special use fees apply, depending on use. Call the rec center directly to reserve space.

Free Summer Meals

Coming Updates to Whittier

MPRB is planning updates to this park in the near future with construction projected for fall of 2023. Plans include playground improvements, seating areas, a multi-purpose sport court area for all ages and the addition of a Spark’d Studio to the recreation building.
