Minneapolis Music & Movies in the Parks celebrates more than 120 years of free entertainment in Minneapolis parks. The Minneapolis Parks have music and movies playing every night of the summer. Pick a night, grab a picnic, blankets and the bug spray, and head out for a night of free family fun.
Minneapolis Parks have been hosting concerts in the park since 1892. Movies started in 2007. Rotating daily between neighborhood parks, each year the park plays over 60 different movies.
Most of the neighborhood parks host one or two movie nights. Bigger parks have regular schedules of music and movies.
Music and Movies in the Parks Helpful Hints
If you have never attended a concert or movie in the park, it is a fun and free family outing. A few things make it better. Mosquitoes come out and it gets chilly after sunset. Pack your bug spray and sweaters and/or blankets. You may also want to bring pillows and sleeping bags for the kids. Dusk is well past most kids bed times.
Don't forget your diaper bag. I've done this. It wasn't one of my finest parenting moments.
Come early. This an ideal opportunity for an evening picnic -- popcorn and lemonade are always a welcome addition to outdoor shows. If the venue isn't providing kids activities, I like to toss some yard games into the back of the car. However, if there is a playground, they'll be happy there.
