Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Historical Society is a volunteer run museum and historical preservation society focused on the history of the south Lake Minnetonka area, including Big Island, Deephaven, Excelsior, Greenwood, Shorewood, and Tonka Bay. Families visiting Excelsior on Saturdays in the summer month can make it a part of their kid-friendly day out. Located in an old train depot, the museum and its archives are free and open to the public on Saturdays, May through September. Families can explore their large collection of Lake Minnetonka artifacts, photographs and documents. The museum is next to the Excelsior branch of Hennepin County Library and the Lake Minnetonka LRT Regional Trail. Summer camps are held at Excelsior Elementary in June or July. These camps are featured in our annual summer camp guide, where we update details, such as offerings and prices, annually. The museum sometimes offers youth programming, which can be found on ELMHS’s website. Family options include History Cruises on Lake Minnetonka, field trips and group tours at at-home presentations.More Family Fun in Excelsior:
