Just a couple of blocks south from U.S. Bank Stadium, Elliot Park sits across 8th Street from Hennepin County Medical Center in Downtown Minneapolis. Family-friendly amenities include a playground with tot lot, a wading pool and a skate park. It also has sports courts and fields and picnic areas, all coming together to offer a green space in the middle of downtown.

Elliot Skate Park

Elliot has a skate park, built in 2004, with five concrete features and a concrete base. It is one of the six skate parks currently maintained by MPRB. While skaters like the park's central location they find the placement of features to be awkward and difficult to maneuver. They also complain of non-skating kids playing in the skate park. In an effort to support the skating community, MPRB announced a new project that will expand and enhance the skate park with a variety of new features, including a skateable seat wall, quarter pipe, rail and ledges. This project was put on hold in 2019, but is back on track for 2020. Work is expected to begin in August 2020 with an opening in spring of 2021.

Other Planned Upgrades at Eliot Park

Besides the updates to the skate park, MPRB will be adding four new light poles to the athletic field, allowing evening play. They will be adding new rain gardens. Existing pedestrian and path lighting will also be replaced throughout the park. Additional bike racks will be added; this park already has a bike pump available.  Depending on the budget, MPRB would also like to upgrade the picnic facilities with a new lunch patio and/or relocation of the picnic tables to a shadier area of the park.

Elliot participates in the summer meals program, offering children under 18 years old a free weekday meals during summer break.
