Looking for a road trip? Cider Flats Orchard in Hinckley is a family owned and operated orchard located about an hour and half north of the Twin Cities (approximately halfway to Duluth) and offers some free family fun for fall afternoons while you shop and/or pick locally grown apples, plums, cherries, pumpkins and squash.

2020 Note: As a safety precautions many activities are not available this year:

  • No free coffee or hot cider
  • No sampling
  • No playground, picnic shelter, or corn bin
  • No bathroom
  • No touching produce before buying.

Family Fun Activities at Cider Flats Orchard

While not as expansive as some of the bigger orchards in the Twin Cities area, families have quite a few fun activities to choose from, with an added benefit of avoiding crowds.

  1. Pick your own produce. The orchard offers Plums (September and October), Cherries (June and July), Pumpkins, and Squash (fall).
  2. Shop the apple shack for apples as well as unique gifts – jams, jellies, salsas, bbq sauces, dressings, crafts, soaps, scrubs, honey, wild rice.
  3. Kids (and adults, if you want) can climb in the corn bin.
  4. Play on the playground
  5. Pack a picnic to enjoy in the farm’s picnic shelter
  6. Purchase some fresh pressed apple cider to get in a fall mood
  7. Buy a pumpkin and carve it at the orchard on Saturdays in October (leave the mess behind!)
