December Family Weekend: Last Chance Holiday

Things to do in Minneapolis-St Paul this weekend!

DECEMBER 22-23, 2018

For more inspiration and seasonal cheer, hop over to our Twin Cities Christmas & Holiday Guide.

LAST DAZZLE

Fri, Dec 21-Sun, Dec 23: Holidazzle | Loring Park, Minneapolis
The lights go out after Sunday so make haste. There’s lots much to enjoy at the festival in addition to shopping the vendors for holiday gifts: free outdoor ice skating, movies, kids zone and visits with Santa. On Dec 22, download a free ride to Holidazzle via Metro Transit to skip parking.

SEE YA, SANTA

Last chance for littles to hand over their Christmas list before Christmas Eve! Santa is also hanging around Twin Cities shopping centers through the weekend.

Sat, Dec 22: Santa Visit | Blue Sun Soda & Sweets Shop, Spring Lake Park
Santa greets guests 12-4pm. Stock up on gourmet sodas and treats to taste test with holiday guests.

Sat, Dec 22: Santa Skate | Schwan Super Rink, Blaine
Makes sense Santa would be at home on skates. Enjoy cookies and juice, a photo booth, games and prizes. Pictures with Santa. $7 per person, no pre-registration necessary. Skates and helmets available for rent. 1:45-3:15pm.

Sun, Dec 23: Meet Santa & Mrs Claus | Can Can Wonderland, St Paul
Meet Santa 10am-2pm then tackle the coolest miniature golf course in the Twin Cities!

ALMOST HISTORY

See the Twin Cities living history sites all decked out for the holidays.

Fri, Dec 21-Sun, Dec 23: A Victorian Christmas | Alexander Ramsey House, St Paul
See, hear and taste a Victorian Christmas during this holiday guided tour. Homemade cookies in the kitchen, holiday music of the era on the piano, and original family decorations. 10am-4:30pm, $8-$12/pp.

Sat, Dec 22: Christmas Saturdays for Families | James J Jill House, St Paul
Take a self-guided tour at your own pace and discover how the powerful Hill family celebrated Christmas. 10am-5pm, $6-$10/pp

Sat, Dec 22 & Sun, Dec 23: Folkways of Holidays | The Landing, Shakopee
Folk art performances, a horse-drawn trolley, and tours dressed in 19th century decorations. Dress for the outdoors. 10am-4pm, $5-$8/pp.

ARM YOURSELF…for the break ahead

For many families (particularly those inclined to consult this website), the weekend flows right into a nice stretch of vacation days from school. Lots of us are also on break from our regularly-scheduled extracurriculars, too. A few years back we put together a list of 16 Things To Do Over Winter Break to keep ourselves sane at home during this time, and, for extra armor, beefed up our annual Winter Break Survival Guide.
