The Old Gem Theater spins E.B. White’s classic family story Charlotte’s Web.

Funny, sad and endearing, Charlotte’s Web tells a timeless story of friendship. Wilbur, a good little pig, makes friends with a spider named Charlotte, who lives in the rafters above his pen.  Wilbur is devastated when he discovers his fate is to become breakfast bacon. Determined to save her friend, Charlotte spins a trick that convince the humans that Wilbur is some terrific and radiant pig and should be saved.

Weekday matinees will be performed for schools from all around Minnesota and Wisconsin throughout May and June. The schools bring their students to New Richmond for spring field trips where they enjoy local attractions such as
the Heritage Center and Mary Park after their trip to the theater.

Old Gem Artistic Director Kathy Welch says, “This is our most popular play. Kids love it, parents love it, teachers love it.  I think there is a timeless sweetness to the bittersweet friendship the little pig, Wilbur, forges with the clever spider Charlotte. And, of course in typical Old Gem style, there is plenty of slapstick comedy.  We can’t wait to share it with our audiences.”

Charlotte’s Web features members of the Old Gem Young Performers Ensembleincluding:  Lydia Grunewaldt, Emma  Wallraff, Stella Lauck, Chesney Demulling, Chase Demulling, Evie Colombo, and Ava Rumpza of New Richmond, Stephanie Lustig and Amy Lippman of Somerset and Emma Hatch and Sophia Emmert of Houlton

The cast also includes Old Gem Resident Company members: Stephanie Bright of Minneapolis and Tom Monn of Woodbury.

Charlotte’s Web plays for the public on Sat May 10 at 10:30 am, Sun May 11 at 2pm, Sat May 17 at 10:30 am and Sun May 18 at 2pm.  Tickets are $11.00 for adults and $9.00 for students and seniors.

Weekday matinees for groups play through June 6.  Groups of 20 or more pay just $6.25 per person for tickets to weekday matinees.  The public is welcome to attend group matinees when there is room available.  Call first as many of the shows are sold out.
