Celebrating Father’s Day in the Twin Cities

My husband gets to put up with four rambuncious and adorable children,  and he is fantastic.  Even though I do not like celebrating obligatory holidays, I do want to celebrate my husband’s amazing contribution to our family as Daddy.

So I went in search of free Father’s Day lunch because I’m cheap that way.

What says we love you better than a free meal, right?  At least that’s what I think.
But you know what I found?  Nothing!  Nada!  Zip! Zilch! I was outta luck.

However, I did find some unique activities that you could enjoy with Daddy and your whole family.  I will put them in order of price as in $0, $, and $$.

I hope this helps you to be able to plan for a fun celebration for the Daddy, Grandpa, or Uncle in your life.

Stone Arch Bridge Festival
Saturday, June 14-Sunday, June 15, 2014

It doesn’t cost anything to get in.  Enjoy the park, the free music, the family art projects.  Go check out the Father’s Day Car Show at the Merriem Street Bridge area.  See NASCAR Driver Kasey Kahne’s #5 car (he is one of my top 2 drivers…didn’t know I was a NASCAR fan, did you!).  Now, if you want eat there, you will be spending money on the food vendors.  And they look really good!

Pa and Ma Day
The Landing

Play checkers, visit the dressmaker, play baseball, listen to a fiddler, watch a fashion show.  It’s going to be a lot of fun with Pa and Ma at The Landing.

Travel back in time to the 1800’s to help out with Mr. Kelley’s farm.  Build feed boxes, take care of the livestock, repair fences, tend the garden, and bake some treats in the oven.  Yum!

Enjoy riding in vintage train cars while enjoying a meal with your favorite dad.  This is what one review on Trip Advisor said,

We did the dinner train for Father’s Day, and it was a real treat. The food was good, the ride was comfortable, and the service was very friendly. I would do it again, but probably the brunch train the next time–just for the variety. Well worth the trip!

  • […] Stone Arch Bridge Festival James J. Hill requested the Stone Arch Bridge over St. Anthony Falls to look like the Roman aqueducts and built as a bridge for the railroad. Orginally, it was going to be iron, but the engineers needed to factor in the the sandstone that surrounded the river. Therefore, they chose to create it out of granite from Sauk Rapids and limestone from Mankato (and Iowa) making it a beautiful view of the Falls. […]
