Old Gem Theater Students perform an original adaptation of Beauty and the Beast this weekend.

This Old Gem original play tells the timeless tale of self-sacrifice and true love and is produced as the culmination the fall Young Performers Ensemble class.

A storm at sea sinks a merchant ship destroying Beauty’s family business and leaving her mother destitute. On a trip to salvage the remains of her merchandise, Beauty¹s mother stumbles upon an enchanted castle ruled over by a terrible beast and invisible servants. Beauty sacrifices her freedom to save her mother and in the process releases the Beast from his curse with her kindness and charity. Colorful and action-packed, the Old Gem¹s Beauty and the Beast will entertain the whole family.

The show is directed by Old Gem Company Member Tom Monn and choreographed by Rita Black.  Tom says, “It is really rewarding to watch the kids grow in their roles.”  Rita says, “I think the audience is going to have as much fun at the show as we have had putting it together.”
