ArtStart’s EcoArts Fest
Harriet Island Regional Park
May 16, 2015
11 a.m. – 5 p.m.  FREE!

The kids and their dad once put together a wonderful homemade Mother’s Day card for me using supplies bought at the ArtScraps store in St. Paul. It was a great reminder of the mission of the shop and all its parent company, ArtStart, does to encourage the reduction of waste through art-making. ArtStart is also passionate about inspiring the community to care for its natural resources.

Every year, on a Saturday in May, the non-profit organization hosts its annual EcoArts Fest on Harriet Island to promote environmental stewardship through visual and performing arts.

Highlights of the event will include:

  • A community pageant at the river to express our care and concern for the health of all waters as symbolized by the Mississippi River
  • Dozens of artistic performances taking place simultaneously throughout the Festival
  • Performances and presentations by the children who participated in ArtStart School
  • Free hands-on reuse art activities led by professional artists
  • An EcoArtists Market selling earth-friendly products

New to 2015:

  • An opening community pageant at Mississippi River
  • A special art exhibit and performance entitled “The Nature of Peace”
  • Dancing on the Wind-A Japanese Kite Flying Project
  • Ce In Yollotl In Tlapizalli-A Hands-On Clay Flute Project
  • Humming for Bees-A Bee Education Project
  • Passport to Nature-A Touch and Feel Nature Experience
  • FREE hands-on art activities that feature natural or reuse materials
  • FREE hands-on environmental education activities and resource materials
  • Dozens of intergenerational cultural performances
  • EcoArts installations supported by Forecast Public Art
  • A zero waste event, ArtStart collaborates with Eureka! Recycling
