FFTC’s Guide to School Clothes Shopping on a Budget

School clothes shopping sends shivers up my spine. I just spent over $100 buying school supplies for my kids. And we didn’t even get everything on the list. Who knew that notebooks and crayons could add up so quickly.  Our cart was full, but it wasn’t overflowing.

With the school supplies purchased and ready to go, it’s time to consider school clothes shopping. After spending so much on folders and pencils, we really gotta be careful and stick to our budget. There are some great alternatives to the mall, department stores or even Target that can help you keep the prices down.

Aug 3: Owamni Falling Water Festival | Father Hennepin Bluff Park, Minneapolis
A free and family-friendly event celebrating indigenous Minnesota culture with music, art & food.

Aug 3: Victoria Volksfest | Victoria
Music, arts & crafts booths, and fireworks.

Bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic dinners. Enjoy FREE movies and live theater performances in Twin Cities parks all summer long.

Sat, Aug 3: Eloise Butler Birthday Celebration | Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden
Add this event to your August Adventures. Stop in to walk the trails, birdwatch, and learn about the founder of the sanctuary. Garden Storytime held at 10:30am, a family garden hike at 11. Light refreshments will be served in the visitor shelter. 10am – 6pm, FREE.
 


KID-FRIENDLY MUSEUMS

Sat, Aug 3: First Free Saturday: Stomping Ground | Walker Art Center, Minneapolis
Activities are geared towards kids ages 6-12, but don’t let that stop you from bringing your littler ones! Free gallery admission for the whole family. 10am-3pm.

Sat, Aug 3: Design & Engineering Showcase Event | Minnesota Children’s Museum
Included with museum admission ($13/pp): Fun engineering challenges for kids hosted by local businesses. Plan ahead in August: Minnesota Children’s Museum is FREE on August 18.

Sun, Aug 4: Open House: Working with Horn | Pond Dakota Mission Park, Bloomington
Drop in for hands-on living history activities every Sunday from 1-4pm. Programs are free with a suggested donation of $2/pp.
