School’s out for a couple of extra days! Whether that means you’re looking for an engaging program to drop the kids at or an opportunity to spend some time out and about with them, we’ve got some ideas for you:
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 20
Gale Woods Farm, Minnetrista
Program: Fall on the Farm, 9:30am-2:30pm
Ages/Cost: Designed for kindergarten-age and up, adult must accompany • $7/pp
Details: Meet farm animals, make a farm-fresh snack, and create a wool keepsake to take home. Stay for an hour or the whole day! Bring a lunch if desired.
Gibbs Farm, Falcon Heights
Program: MEA Day at Gibbs Farm, 9am-4pm
Ages/Cost: Ages 6-10 • $29/half day, $49/full day
Details: Kids will have the opportunity to experience a day filled with crafts, caring for our animals, putting up a tipi, churning butter, visiting the one-room schoolhouse, and much more.
Silverwood Park, St. Anthony
Program: Freaky Fall Camp, 9am-3pm
Ages/Cost: Ages 6-12 • $60/child
Details: Drop off the kids to explore fall at Silverwood by canoeing, creating a leaf lantern, and learning about gross bugs and decomposers. Reservations required by October 14.
Saint Paul Neighborhood Network, St. Anthony
Program: Family Workshop: From Page to Screen, 9am-12pm
Ages/Cost: Ages 5+ and caregiver FREE
Details: Families will learn to construct a set and characters and create a 90-second stop-motion animation. At the end of class, families will be ready to submit their media artwork to The 90-Second Newbery Film Festival, a national video contest for young media makers.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21
Cleary Lake Regional Park, Prior Lake
Program: Pioneer Olympics, 4:30-6pm
Ages/Cost: Ages 8+ with accompanying adult • $5/pp
Details: [Learn how to throw a hatchet and an atlatl. Participate in pioneer games and competitions. Children 17 years and younger must be accompanied by a registered adult. Reservations required by October 19.

Details: Drop off the kids to explore the farm and help with chicken chores. Learn how to care for them, from chicken to egg. Reservations required by October 14.
THURSDAY & FRIDAY, OCTOBER 20-21
Childrens Theatre Company, Minneapolis
Program: 3 MEA camp options to choose from, 9am-4pm
Ages/Cost: Grades K-6 • $160 per class
Details: Elephant and Piggie (Grades K-1) joins the characters as they take to the stage! Learn acting skills, create costume crafts, tour the theater and see CTC’s mainstage production of Elephant and Piggie’s We Are In a Play. Onstage and Off (Grades 2-3) explores lighting, props, costumes, and more to design and create original scenes. Actor’s Workshop: The Last Firefly (Grades 4-6) works with improv coaches, games, character creation and scene work. See the world premiere of
The Last Firefly. See the play, take a tour of the theatre, and meet some of the professional artists working on the show.
Program: Craft-o-Create MEA Weekend Edition
Ages/Cost: K-1st grade, 10am-1pm/$40 per day; 2nd grade & up, 10am-3pm/$60 per day
Details: projects will be driven by the interests of the kids; those attending on Thursday will participate in the Harvest Festival before moving on to other projects.
Minnesota History Center, St. Paul
Program: MEA Break: History Bound Hijinks, 11am-3pm
Ages/Cost: $12-$6/pp, under 5 free. Adults must accompany.
Details: Enjoy family-friendly fun, including football trivia and crafting a goalpost toss game, inspired by the special exhibit Gridiron Glory: The Best of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Oliver Kelley Farm, Elk River
Program: Harvest Days, 10/20-23
Cost: $9-$6/pp, under 5 free. Adults must accompany.
Details: Join the Kelley farmhands as they prepare the farm crops for winter. Help finish up the field work, put food away in the root cellar, make corn husk dolls or join in a quilting bee and play 19th century games.
St. Paul Public Library
Program: Stay Play MEA, 10/20-22
Ages/Cost: School-aged • FREE
Details: Register in advance for school-release classes featuring movement, music and fitness.
Science Museum of Minnesota, St. Paul
Program: 3 MEA camp options to choose from, 8:30am-4:30pm
Ages/Cost: Ages 6-12 • $120-$127/pp
Details: Best of Blow It Up experiments with dry ice, art explosions, and stomp rockets. Wearable Circuitry lets kids design light up accessories, just in time for Halloween! And spend Zoology Day exploring the world of animals with us.
Timberwolves Basketball Academy
Locations: Thursday – Eagan, Maple Grove, Watertown; Friday – Bloomington, Elk River, Hastings
Program: Basketball clinics, 9am-4pm
Ages/Cost: 2nd-8th grade • $49/child, $59 after 10/7
Details: Clinics are designed to improve the skill levels of all youth basketball players.
The Works Museum, Bloomington
Program: 3 MEA camp options to choose from, 10/19-10/21, 9am-4pm
Ages/Cost: Grade K-age 10 • $77 per class
Details: Artistic Engineering (Wed, 10/19) lets kids build their own spin-art machine to take home. If you’ve got kids who love LEGOs, the LEGO Design Challenges (Thurs, 10/20) camp might fit the bill. And in the Frankentoys (Fri, 10/21) camp, dissect mechanical toys and rearrange the parts to create a new toy.
