SPCO Ordway family concert

Saint Paul, MN, September 16, 2013 – Tickets are available for the SPCO’s fall Target Free Family Concerts at the Ordway on October 5 at 9:30am and at11:00am. In past years, tickets to these free concerts have been given away through a random drawing. Starting this year, free tickets are being given on a first-come, first-served basis through reservations on the SPCO’s web site or by calling the SPCO’s ticket office.

Family Concerts at the Ordway are an exciting introduction to a full-fledged concert experience in which kids get the thrill of entering the large concert hall, getting a program, and seeing the full orchestra on stage. The SPCO’s Family Concerts are appropriate for a wide range of ages (6-12 is our recommendation), as children of different ages take away different things from the experience. It is a comfortable, warm, welcoming place to try a concert for the first time.

The SPCO’s other concerts geared especially for children, Start the Music! (for ages 3-6) and xplorchestra! (ages 6-12),  give kids a chance to be up close to a small ensemble of musicians in the intimate Music Room. Xplorchestra! concerts are a fast-paced humorous ride exploring different elements of music via great repertoire. Start the Music! concerts focus on one instrument family, feature a narrated children’s book with musical accompaniment, and include an opportunity for little listeners to engage in hands-on activities that reinforce the concert’s theme. The fall offerings of Start the Music! and xplorchestra! are sold out.

Tickets for the spring free family concerts will be made available at a later date. Patrons interested in being alerted to the on-sale date for the spring family concerts should request to be added to the SPCO’s email club.
