The 2013 Season is Over, but St. Paul’s Outdoor Pools Open every summer around Memorial Day and close around Labor Day.  Watch our website for updates in the Spring.

Como Regional Park Pool and the Highland Park Aquatic Center are throwing open their doors this Saturday, May 25, to usher in the swimming season. The pools will be open through Memorial Day and again the following weekend, June 1-2 before regular summer hours begin June 8.

The Como Pool underwent an extensive remodel and re-opened last summer, 2012, with brand-new features such as a zip line and lazy river. I have yet to get to the new pool, but from what I’ve heard it’s a full-blown water park with fun stuff for all ages. My toddler would love the wading pool with short slides. My kindergartners would enjoy the spinning flower fountains. And I could see my son loving the aquatic rock-climbing wall.

It has been our public pool of choice in recent summers because there’s lots of shallow space to wade and splash with younger children. My little ones have enjoyed the whale-bone splash pad and the water basketball hoops. One feature Highland has that Como lacks is a large waterslide. With kids now in elementary school, this kind of pool feature is increasingly important!
