11am – 3pm; FREE!

No matter that for years my kids were freaked out by the Vulcan Krewe’s fire truck and refused to ride it. We went to the Vulcan-hosted Snow Park at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds anyway and they had a great time avoiding the truck. There was plenty more to do in the snow than ride around in it – a snow maze, a mini-medallion hunt, and dozens of awesome entries in the Minnesota State Snow Sculpting Competition to check out. This outing was a couple years back; the Snow Park will once again liven up the State Fairgrounds during the 2014 St. Paul Winter Carnival. I would encourage anyone whose kids would enjoy a good old-fashioned day in the snow to give it a try (Vulcan fire truck rides totally optional). Here’s the schedule for the Snow Park:

January 24 – 26: Minnesota State Snow Sculpting Competition concludes at noon on Sunday. Any and all are welcome to watch the progress and awards ceremony.

January 26 only: St. Paul Vulcans host “Snow Park at the Fair” with free fire truck rides, the medallion hunt, visits from St. Paul Winter Carnival royalty and more. 11am – 3pm.

January 25 – February 2: Try out the new 15’-high Snow Slide! Hours for slide can be found by clicking here. There is no cost listed for the slide but I find it unlikely that it will be free. If it is similar to the inflatable slide that sat in Rice Park during the carnival in years past, I believe we paid about $3 per slide for the kids.

Snow sculptures will be on display January 24 –  February 2, 2014 at the Fairgrounds.
